What does an atom look like? And does it have a physical form?

Berit Dröse is fascinated by the idea that the atom is the basic element in all objects. Nevertheless, the atom is intangible; as thin air, as an exhalation, as the smoke from dry ice, as elusive as a human condition.
She is inspired by the atom's changing conditions which exist in solid form, liquid form, as a gas or plasma.

The exhibition Between thin air and dry ice includes sculptural and pictorial studies. The works consist primarily of natural materials such as salt, water, oil and glass. Berit Dröse explores the material's malleability, density, reflection and transparency.
In the sculpture series Substance she combines simple materials whereas the elements create a new matter. A white piece of fabric and salt is converted into a crystal, two liquids create a joint geometric shape and a spiral vibrates to its own sounds. In the paintings Licht und Blindheit she has used black ink and white gouache and by this achieves a tactile depth.
The transparent material is a common denominator in all works and points back to the atom as the invisible basic element.

Hvordan ser et atom ud? Og har det en fysisk form?

Berit Dröse er fascineret af tanken, at atomet er grundelementet i alle objekter. Alligevel er atomet uhåndgribeligt; som tynd luft, som en udånding, som røgen fra tøris, så uhåndgribelig som en menneskelig tilstand.
Hun er inspireret af atomets foranderlige tilstande som både eksisterer i fast form, flydende form, som gasart eller plasma.

Udstillingen Between thin air and dry ice omfatter skulpturelle samt billedlige undersøgelser. Værkerne består primært af naturlige materialer som salt, vand, olie og glas. Berit Dröse udforsker materialets formbarhed, tæthed, refleksion og gennemsigtighed.
I skulptur-serien Substans sammensætter hun enkle materialer og lader elementerne skabe et nyt stof. Et hvidt stykke stof og salt bliver omdannet til en krystal, to væsker skaber en fælles geometrisk form og en spiral vibrerer til sine egne lyde. I billederne Licht und Blindheit arbejdes med sort blæk og hvid gouache hvori der opstår en taktil dybde.
Det transparente materiale er en fællesnævner i alle værker og peger tilbage på atomet som det usynlige grundelement.
